Just wondering if anyne is running 305/70/16 on stock suspension with no modifications? Or would i have to atleast crank the torsion bars a little to fit the 305s? If so i guess the 285s would work.. Also if anyone is running the 305s with stock suspension do u have any pics? Thanks. O btw my truck is a 97 4x4.
I think you have to crank the torsion bars and do a little trimming in the wheelwells to get them to clear in the front. I would go with 285's. You will also lose power from the taller tires killing the gear ratio.
Ok, to crank the torsion bars, do you have to buy the torsion key kit, or can you just go under the truck and turn the bolt down there to the right a couple turns? I saw on f150online that someone said to lift the front with the torsion bar all you had to do was turn that bolt to the right, is this true?

Yep thats correct, you can crank it up its best to get an alighnment if you go up far, it dont take but a second just take a measurement before and after to be sure both sides are the same its easiest if you lift the front end.., no keys needed
I ran mine cranked all the way up just to level truck when it was stock for 60,000 mls without an alignment with no probs..I would stay with the 285/295 maxx unless you went with a lift of some sort..
where do i need to measure to make sure i get both sides the same? or can i just do like 1/2 turn on left, 1/2 turn on right?
I would make sure the front wheels are on level ground and measure from the outer center fender well to the rim centers or a common point on both sides, you can probably get by with the counting tread turns but I would double check with a tape to be sure..
ok thanks for the help! Do i need to buy new shocks up front for the little extra lift? and how much lift can i get? If i dont need new shocks i might try and see if i can do this tommorow!
No new shocks needed unless you get the 2" torsion keys, If you only go up with stock torsion adjustment its about 1.5" , and if you want the best shocks the talk on the street is bilstiens, I went up 2" rear and 2" keys in front and I had my 01 lariat torsion bars jacked all the way up and after doing the rear 1st before the new keys it looked like a dragster..and thats with the adjuster hitting the top of the cross member torsion plate.I replaced shocks with the ES3000 procomps, Im hunting bilstiens..
If i can keep the stock shocks i will because i plan on putting a 4-6 in lift kit on eventually when i get the money and will obviously upgrade then. So can i just crank them as far as they will go? or do i need to like stop at about 1-1.5" lift with each side?

Crankem up, I had mine all but about 1/2 turn from being bottom out and my 4x4;s front end was still not level with the rear, Ive read some folks after cranking the front torsion bars there front end is higher, so each truck might be different, I ran for over 60,000 mls with no probs, kudos to getting a suspension lift, there pricey very pricey but is a good way to go for looks and performance, just do your research and get a good kit..the 285/295 will make a diference in stance, depending on rims alot of folks run 285;s stock...and wheel of-road with no probs..
hey can i crank the torsions keys if i already have a suspension lift on? and will it still get the same effect? cuz i like the look of the front being a inch or so higher than the back, so if i cranked mine now, with the 7.5 lift would it still lift the nose? or would it like mess everything up? anybody done this witha suspension lift? and sorry i your thread
I am going to warn you about cranking torsion bars. Watch the angle on your half shafts. If you have old boots (You'll know if they are hard) they will bust. It just happened to me and what a mess it was under the front end. Just some advice and something to watch out for.

Good point, i keep a close eye on mine, and spray them down often with silocone..
Bla..you got me on the lift and torsion bars, Ive never looked at one close enough..
