Engine cuts out

I have a 2002 F250 with a 7.3 and an automatic with 145,000 miles. Lately it's developed a problem. I can be driving along or when I come to a stop, the engine just dies. I put in neutral and it starts right up. I've changed the fuel filter, but it still happens. Any ideas????

You could be encountering a Cam Position Sensor problem. That sensor is very common to go out and whenever its gets worse the truck won't even start. Replacing the sensor could fix it but you might want to wait for some more replies.

ok let me type this again since the site went down the first time i did. as stated above it sounds like it could be a failing CPS (cam position sensor) its an easy fix with a 10mm socket and is only $25-$30. here is a diagram of where it is: http://catalog.powerstrokeshop.com/p...&subcat1=73203

I agree, CPS, it could be something else, but I would try the CPS first. Beware, some dealers are not selling the $25 CPS until they get rid of old stock. I know someone on here has a link to the cheap version.

I had the same problem when my truck was new (2000). The dealer said it was the idler motor or something like that, I don't remember. It was in warranty so I didn't get to see the part. Hope this helps.

Try putting it in neutral before you come to a stop.
If that cures it, your torque converter is failing to unlock.
