To all those that use headers...

...what do you do with the support brace that goes from the intake plenum to the stock exhaust manifold bolt, the engine dip stick tube support bracket etc. etc. upon installation of the headers and removal of the manifolds????

I took off the plentum support and wire tied the dipstick tube to the plug wires in a way that keeps it from moving around.

I used a stud and mounted it in one of the bottom valve cover mounting holes.

Thats what I would like to do...but ARP does not offer a stud that will allow me to do that and I refuse to use anything but ARP.

I welded a bolt to the header flange for the dipstick:

As for the plenum support, my headers (ford racing) came with a long bolt with a standoff.

I did the exact same thing. Although my bolt is a bit lower. Didn't take much time or effort. It has worked for my rig for quite a while now and the dipstick has yet to wiggle out.

I bought a set of new exhaust manufld bolts from NAPA, used the long ones with a spacer, then the stock nuts. It works very well and looks like a factory setup.

What brand headers are you guys using, short or long tube, are they specifically for Ford trucks, and do the shorty headers you used bolt up to the stock Y pipe?

Yes. These headers are made for these trucks. Go to the summit site and look up the Ford Motorsport shorty headers for the 5.0 and 5.8. Ebay has them as well.

They do bolt up to the factory y-pipe as well. I'd recommend you swapping out the factory Y-pipe with a high performance set. Bassani makes a bolt up version. The factory Y pipe is definitely a choke in the system and if you're not going to run full length headers, you should swap out the restrictive stock y pipe.

I wouldn't buy those headers. The flanges are thin, unfinished and will be a bear to keep from leaking.

The FMS Shorties are 409 stainless, with thick machined flanges, and trouble/leak free.

You get what you pay for.
