06 150 S-Cab 5.4 witrh tow package 3.73 rear 6.5' bed.Have been towing a 27'T.T. 5500# loaded no problems at all with this. Using Reese dual cam hitch.Looking at a 29' with UVW of 7200#..29' trailer is a higher profile and 6" wider.Any pulling something comparable?Any thoughts? Thanks!
whats your owners manual say your total tow weight is?weigh your truck subtract that from your total tow weight and thats what you can safely tow by ford standards but most ppl dont go by that.ford says i can tow 20,000 lbs my truck weighs 7620 lbs so that leaves me 12,000 plus!
I am pulling a 34' tip to tail Trail Bay that weighs in at 6800 dry. Loaded and ready to go it is right at 8700. I tow it all the time with no problems. I am running an Equal-i-zer hitch and Prodigy controller. The truck does work in the hills but it's not too bad. Flat ground is a breeze at 65-70 MPH and I usually see about 11-12 MPG. In the mountains I see 9-10 MPG. I do have to anticipate the hills so as not to loose speed. If I do get on a grade that is steep I will pull into the right lane and let it pull. I have never dropped down below 50 MPH. I do see 2nd gear when climbing... about 3400RPM's. My trailer is a full profile unit... 8' wide and 10' tall.GVWR on the trailer is 9780. I wouldnt want to put any more behind this truck. Next truck will be a 250 diesel.
"higher profile and 6" wider"
If this means it is a wide body (8' 6" wide) you may be less than happy in the wind. I had a wide body trailer for a while and couldn't believe the difference in the wind. Bucking a wind at times I would have difficulty maintaining 50mph. With a normal 8' wide trailer I never had difficulty in the wind. (same tow vehicle, E350 with 460)
What make was your "wide body trailer"? The widest travel trailer I have ever seen is 96" or 8'. The OP was probably towing a 7 1/2' lightweight trailer. It will also be alot shorter. Mine is a full profile....8' wide. As far as I know or have seen in 20+ years is 8' as the widest. This includes class A coaches.
I was towing a Coachman Cascade which was 25ft long and 8'6" wide. I just took a quick look at Coachman's web pages, they may not have wide body models any more. The Cascade was a 2001 model and it definately was 8'6". Many class A rigs are wide body and some road restrictions limit where they can go.
