Here is the FMC warranty on Rust/Corrosion it is 5yr/Unlimited.
"Corrosion Coverage
Under your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Corrosion Coverage begins at the
warranty start date and covers body sheet metal panels against corrosion
due to a defect in factory-supplied materials or workmanship. Corrosion coverage(which lasts for 5 years, regardless of miles driven) only applies if the
corrosion causes perforation (holes) in body sheet metal panels.
If corrosion does not cause perforation (holes), and is not the result of
usage and/or environmental conditions, paint damage is covered under
the terms of the Bumper to Bumper Warranty (3 years or 36,000 miles,
whichever occurs first).
For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) - where
there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty -
our policy is to cover paint damage due to airborne material for
12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first."
When I purchased my truck, I went underneath it and looked at the complete underside while laying on a creeper. bare metal driveshaft, quite a bit of bare metal, body sealer oozing from seams, a couple grease fittings never greased. I coated all the bare metal parts with rustoleum black. Next was removing the spare tire, and a trip over to ziebart to rustproof the new truck. When they were done, the spare tire was marked with my id information, and then a chain and lock was wrapped around the spare, to keep it mine. I certainly never had a problem since. Proper prevention is a better fix BEFORE the rust occures.
the only place I THINK there is rust other than a spot here or there of surface rust on the frame is a the seam of the tailgate.. I THINK its rust.. Its not popped through the paint..and is not discolored...so maybe its just seam sealer??but it looks like rust under paint to me... Im keeping an eye on the area and if there is breakthru Ill take care of it before it reached the visible side of the panel... Ill have to check my wheelwell area..definately dont want a rusted through fender... My guess is since it seems to be happening on the top is that the metal there was left bare where it was rolled.. paint/primer probably doesnt cover well there and Id imagine many people dont clean that when washing the truck..

100% Agree , I was surpised how much raw metal was under my new truck, The paint on mine is also very , very thin.
I know mine isn't a new truck (2000 f350) but my general list of rusting is, of course, anything facing the road, no big surprise here in tar and chip country, AND both bottom rear corners of my rear door windows. It appears to be some sort of rain runoff damage, but I can't really figure it out.
I've also noticed cracks in a number of the body seams recently and I just purchased some caulk to fill them when the dry weather comes.
Thin paint is just as bad as no paint at all... but it certainly saves come cash.
