It is a 3 speed trans exact year is unknown.... Truck was originally a stick. I noticed no smoke... until I did the seafoam.... I will try to diagnose the modulator valve. The truck will upshift on it's own just WAY to early. It is in high gear by 20 under normal acceleration and will not down shift on it's own.

Will blocking off my egr help or hinder overall performance?
I plan to pull the top off my one barrel carb to inspect/adjust float level... Is it fine to do this on the engine or will there be a severe snag to do this? I am pretty sure I am going to find the fuel level dismally low in the bowl...
I am going to check back here in about 45 minutes... If no answer I will likely "go for it"...

Okay I admit it I got patient! I waited and checked back several times yesterday and after several beers waiting for the race to start I decided that I would wait on this since I was buzzed and did not need that to hinder my workmanship...
I doubt the carb has anything to really surprise me if I take it apart on the truck. I used to pull the tops off of Rochester 2 and 4 barrels with no problems...

The EGR who knows, it could cause a ping at cruising speeds if its not there. I think your trans problems are in the fact that the kickdown isn't hooked up.
