I'm looking for some recommendations for all the driveline fluids on my '71. I recently towed a friend's car ~300 miles and think I burned the fluid in my rear end slightly--and the trans got very hot as well, could feel the heat coming through the floorboards.
Basically, looking for brand and weights of good fluids that will keep temps down, shift well, and keep everything happy for the running gear I have. Also, a recommendation of a vendor to get them from would be helpful too.
I've got a '71 with:
Dana 44 front
NP435 trans
Dana 20 t-case
9" open rear end
I must say though, that granny low in the NP435 is AWESOME for hauling!
i have found that heavy weight synthetics usually work really good all around. some time 50 weight or heavier stright fluids woke well in the rear end and normal tranny synthetic for the tranny unless it is autotransmission then a racing formula synthetic works really good.
