A while ago I posted a problem I had with my 66 4x4 100/352. The problem was my son hooked up the new alternator wrong and the wiring almost caught fire. We replaced all the bad wiring and still couldnt find the problem. I also noticed the original alt. meter was bad so I replaced it, while removing the wires off the back one of the wires touched the metal dash and sparked which resulted in the truck having no power. I posted this problem sometime ago and was told to take both wires from the alt gauge and hold them together to see if they become warm. I did that and yes they did become warm and now i do have lights and turn signals but the truck still wont turn over. So I replaced the whole ignition swith to include new keys and still no luck. what should i be looking for ????????????????
Does the starter solenoid click when ya turn key to start position? What happens when ya jump from the batt post on solenoid to start post on solenoid (be sure truck is out of gear and blocked in all these tests)? What happens when ya jump across both big posts on the sides of the solenoid. Inquiring minds need to know.
with a charged battery and the key turned to the on position, i have tried jumping the solenoid, it does turn over but very slowly. i am like out of ideas
For lack of any suggestions the following is the 3 page troubleshooting section out of my 65 Ford Truck shop manual, not sure if any the info applies. Had to use Adobe because scanning in other mode leaves print too small. Unfortuately, computer illiterate and don't know how to attach PDF files. Found by highlight address and copy, then paste in browser should open the attachment. Sorry!!!

Sounds like the starter is dragging. Pull it out and check for worn bushings letting the armature drag on the field coils or burnt and worn brushes. Bushing and brushes are available but may be cheaper to just replace it. Make sure all connections from the starter to the battery are clean and tight. And that the ground from batt to engine is also. I would check all connections first.

to answer some of the questions that were asked of me, no there is no click when the key is turned and i have replaced the starter with a new one. when jumping the soleniond the truck turns over slowly but when trying to start with the key in the start position the truck does nothing. i do have light and turn signals. any suggestions? do i need to replace the alt. meter guage?????
If the starter is indeed good (new doesnt always mean good) Than from what ya said in post #9. I would have the battery load tested. Clean all connections from batt to solenoid, solenoid to starter. If ya jumped to the S post on solenoid and it turned slowly than I may think the solenoid is bad. If ya jumped across the big posts on solenoid with something that can carry the current and the batt is fully charged and all connections are good and it turn slow than the starter is dragging. As for no click when ya turn the key. Take the wire off the S terminal on solenoid and stick a grounded test light in the wire plug. Have someone turn key to start and the test light should light up. If it does than The solenoid is bad or ya have a bad connection as stated above. Or a low battery. If no light in this test than check for fusible link blown and or fuse. A last resort would be a bad switch. I think ya have a weak battery and or bad starter connections. Keep in mind that if ya have a bad ground or ground cable it will also cause all yer problems. Please let us know after trying this. And I hope this has been of help.
Try turning on the head lights and with someone watching them turn the key to start. Do the head lamps go out or dim? If so the weak batt or connections is suspect.
