My wife and I were just at the local Ford dealer looking at a 2004 6.0L Excursion Limited edition and I am seriously considering buying it. We would be trading in her 2003 F-150 Supercrew XLT 5.4L. I just requested an oasis report yesterday and it came back with no real issues (I love this site) but my concern is that the dealer wants $47,900 CDN for it (about $44,900 U.S.). The mileage is 95,000kms (59,000miles), I checked it out on the Kelly Blue Book site and they valued the vehicle at $35,000 CDN ($32,000 U.S.). When I asked the salesman about the asking price, he said it was so they made their profit on what it initially cost them to bring it from the auction they bought it at and do any necessary repairs and cleaning to it. So to make a long story longer, I was wondering what you guys figure I should do.
We are looking for one also. I would agree with VaSheriff that their price is too high and you should be able to get one in the price range he mentioned, although a clean one at the mileage and trim level you mention will go very fast at $30,000. I would have to disagree that you can find one "easily" anywhere. At least for us, to find one that is in good shape and priced right we are using a very wide search area. And yes, many have them priced extremely high.
Three years ago we bought ours for $29500. It was only 2 years old and had 27K miles and like new. It was tough to find, in Chicago, but was way under book. I used AutoTrader. All I can say is keep looking. Not sure which auto sites are in Canada, but I did search some when the exchange rate was really good and had considered buying one up there. I think at the price they are asking is what people were paying for them brand new or at least pretty close!
I am not sure of the price you pay way up there. But here in the US, 44k is close to the brand new base price in 04.
You should look on ebay to get the prices. You should be able to find exactly the same X, and with the money you save you could have in flown to Canada, and parachuted into your driveway.
By the way LionFan, once you find one, you will love it. They are not perfect vehicles, but this website as well as the Diesel Stop, helped me to do research and repairs on the engine as well as the vehicle. I just took the Ex out last weekend and added some PowerServices Cetane booster and it ran even better than before. The MPG was saying 21 mpg @ 70 mph. Granted it is not exact but fairly close. Good luck
I would have to disagree that you can find one "easily" anywhere.
Ohh, trust me, anybody can find one easily. Whether it's close enough to go get, or whether you want to pay $800, $1,000 or $1,500 for independent shipping is another story.
In this guy's case he would be better off to find one 1,500 miles away and pay the $1,000 shipping.
Well I got raped apparently, but I paid more because it was exactly what I wanted.
2005 6.0l PSD, 33k mi, Black Limited, perfect condition (minus a few small quarter sized dents s***) Ford extended bumper-bumper warranty for 40k. Included trailer delivery 1000mi. each way.
Took about 1 month to find it.
Then about 1 month later I continued to look on ebay and found the SAME truck, for $33k on ebay and the kicker was that it was about 50 miles away from me. It was gone in 2 days
Lionsfan use autotrade.ca and just do a province wide search for one all years all prices and it will show up quite a few. that is how i found mine last dec and paid $10000 for it, put about $2000 in it to get it up to par and just been tinkering ever since. I found mine in Ottawa and I live close to Windsor so i jumped on a train for a $100 ticket and drove it home. Could have caught a cheap plane flight for about $200 but was gonna be a midnight flight
Thanks for all the input everybody, I called the dealer today and told him I wasn't going to pay that much. The salesman said that one of his bosses would probably buy it because it was such a "good deal" (guess it is if you don't have to pay the $14,000 mark up). Anyway, I'll try the auto trader and maybe even look in the U.S. for a better deal.
Thanks again.
