I need help with vin number. I looked it up on vin decoder and all it says is the engine and made in Michigan. I have title that says same vin number also. The truck is a 72 Sport Custom SWB. Vin is F17YLP84725

The VIN only tells what model the truck is: F17 = F100 4X2; the engine size: Y = 360 2V; the assembly plant: L = Michigan Truck; and the numerical sequence of assembly: P84725 = 1972.
For the rest of the information about your truck-look on the actual VIN plate-located on the door face near the latch. Post all those numbers here on FTE. I can decode it.
Thanks for the info. Here is what the tag says 115 VM F170 F 8 C H2 04450 157 4000 24 The tag is hard to read but the letters and numbers are stamped so i can read them on other side. The info will be really appreciated.

Is the truck a 3 speed or a 4 speed? My parts catalog says C = 3 speed.
Some trucks of this vintage don't have a front axle code UNLESS the front axle is an option over the standard axle.
The rear and front axle codes are listed together. The first two digits are the rear axle = H2. The 3rd digit (not listed) is the front axle code.

It says C some i guess it had a 3 speed. I got it with no motor, tranny, interior. I'm installing a 302, C6 and putting buckets in. I removed the gas tank from cab and had a tank made and installed it in the rear.

If it had a 3 speed, there would have been a shift lever on the column, a 4 speed had a floor mounted shift lever-hence-hole in the floor.
What body did this truck have? A 115" wheelbase cab & chassis is kinda rare. Cab & chassis means there is nothing behind the cab bodywise...no pickup bed, no nothing..just the bare frame.
Could it of had a short flatbed body for hauling crates of oranges, perhaps?
It is a 72 F100 SWB and has emblems on bedside and fender cowling saying Sport Custom. The person i got it from had a 302 with a C4 auto on the floor. The Vin says it was a 360 3 speed as you decoded. I'm putting a 302 with a C6 in it. I just wanted to know what it was originally. I don't intend to get rid of it any time soon. I got it apart right now and have got the chassis about ready to put cab, bed, and fenders back on. I'm not putting it back to original. I have collected parts from different years to put on to my taste.
