OK, it's time to paint the frame of the '55. I want to keep it as close to factory as possible so should it be painted gloss black or simi flat? Based on what I've read seems like most of you like the POR15 so I think I'm going to use it. Besides, I don 't have a paint booth and according the the posts I've read you can brush this stuff on with great results. Thanks as always for the direction and wisdom!!!
I dont really know what was factory, but you should take a look at John Deere Black paints . They make a Blitz Black (flat), low gloss, and medium gloss. real durable Enamel paint thats pretty inexpensive. I used medium gloss on just about erevything.
gotta say, POR15 has a great look for the undercarriage. it also, holds up to the weather and road wear...if your going for a daily driver then that's the way to go in my opinion...good luck
Rustoleum Satin Black in quarts looks great. I spray mine on and at $7.00 a quart I can lay on plenty of coverage. It lays out beautifully with or without primer. I try to use their primer anyway.
If ya are going for original than maybe NumberDummy can get ya a number for the original Black? With that ya can have it mixed anywhere I would think. I went to a paint supply store and they looked up and got the original color I wanted in a late durable paint. I base coated and color sanded as I didn't want to clear coat. Yet the paint looks wet after 6 years.
