can you get to the on board computer speedometer ajustments?
all my Ford dealer tellme is that I 235/70R17 on my truck and not 235/75R17 that is why my speedometer is off by 6 mph but will not change it to read correct
Welcome to FTE. I know for a FACT that dealerships can alter that.... they might just charge you. In fact, you can do it 5 times, before you have to replace the entire module. My dealer threw the recalibration in when I had them mount up my newer treads. You should inquire with them about how much it will cost (since it seems they wont do it for free). If they continue with the line "we cant", find a competent dealer. Good luck.
Find another dealer or someone at that dealer who doesn't sling such a load of BS. There's only a 3% difference in the tire sizes you listed, so unless you were doing 200 mph when you noticed the 6 mph error, they're full of it.
That being said, speedometers are almost always a bit optimistic (read too high) while the odometer will read dang near dead on. I would guess the mfr's are trying to avoid being blamed for people getting speeding tickets due to a faulty speedometers or some similar reason, so they make them optimistic on purpose.
I would check the odometer first before making any changes to make sure it's off a similar percentage as the speedometer.
I used my hand held GPS to check mine and it(Truck) is off about 3 MPH. I still have original tires and no mods. So, yours could be off 6 just by changing tire sizes. I dont think any Spedo is totally accurate. Just my .02.... A willing dealer can fix it for you. 6 would be a little to much for me, I would want it corrected too!
Question....If another person with an edge(or similar unit) programed it for him, does it stay in the memory of the truck or does the programmer have to remain plugged into the truck to hold the changes? If i had a friend with an Edge, could he put my truck in high performance mod then unplug? Heres my idea....I have a friend with an FX4, we could split the cost of programmer and share it! Kinda gettin off topic now..gotta go
The Edge Evo will only do one truck at a time. If you return the first truck to stock, then you are free to move it to another vehicle.
I guess I wouldn't exactly call it "locking", but it's storing the "stock" settings in it's memory, and it can only hold one set of stock settings at a time.
What the Edge writes to the PCM stays there, so the Edge does not have to remain plugged in. When it's not actively programming (on your command), it's just monitoring and displaying the parameters you set it to display.
