Work trucks

I know quite a few on here have either personal or shared work trucks just wanted to see your thoughts. I work for a security company and we have three trucks, two in service 24x7 and the other the supervisor/backup vehicle. Today we turned back in the 04 Escapes 3.0L 4x4 with 140k. It was in a way a sad day for me. Although i've only driven it for 6 months it was like shooting a favorite horse. We replaced them with Liberty terds rwd drive only, this winter will be interesting. Even with poor maintenance the old Escapes would run circles around these new vehicles. I know alot of people don't feel the same as I do about work vehicles but the ones I drive are normally in alot better shape than the others, I normally go out of my to ensure it. Anybody else feel the same? I'd almost buy the old truck if I knew where it was going.

Back about 10 years or so, I was an autobody apprentice, after I had already been a parts driver at the same car dealership. Anyway, in the 6 months I had been away, they had sold my work truck, a 95 F150, for $1500. It was offered to all current employees, and since I had just booked out, I didn't know about it. Nobody bit on it though, but a friend of an ex co-worker got it. Pretty dang reliable too, had about 150,000 kms on it, 300 I6, 4 speed auto. Wish I could have gotten it. If it was a supercab 4x4 I probably would have hunted it down.

I had 14 company supplied vehicles and I maintained every one as if I was going to buy it. Most were bought by friends, other employees or relatives because they knew what they were getting. My wife's car is my retired Ford Escape. It had 73,000 miles on it when I bought it and it now has 98,000 miles on it and it still looks almost new. Not even a parking lot dent.

Why not keep your company vehicle in perfect condition when it doesn't cost you anything personally?

I always treated my company vehicles like they were not mine and if you saw my trucks you would understand why

The only truck I wished I could have had was a 1980 F-350 with the granny transmission with a reinforced frame for plowing that only had 30k on it. Otherwise, I do take care of them, but, to me they are only cars/trucks. What bothers me is when someone borrows it and they return it with trash it in or spilled soda on the floor.

we severly abuse the work trucks hear at my junkyard and when they die we just get another one i prefer to use older fords because they last longer but they all get crushed sooner or later. But we definatly take very good care of our rigs because they aint cheap
