Talking Test for EBPS

Just was wondering if there was a way to test the ebps. I pulled it and cleaned the tube(was about 50% stopped up and cleaned the end of the sensor itself. Thinking maybe best just to replace sensor. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks, Bill-

If you have autoenginuity or another scan tool capable of reading live data you can watch the pressure. At idle there should be 10-15psi with it climbing on acceleration. Stock should see in the mid 40's, with my 5"straight pipe exhaust I see low 30's max. one sign of a clogged tube or sensor is very low numbers (3-4 psi) at idle and just barely creep up on acceleration.

Thanks for the help - My psd is pretty much stock now, but im doing the 6637 filter mod and the ccv mod this weekend. Would you advise replace ebps. Truck has about 78,000 miles now and the guy I bought it from wasnt too big on maintenance. Thanks, Bill Also thinking about 4 exhaust. I use truck mainly for towing a 9000 # pull behind travel trailer.

If it is not kicking out any codes I would just go with the cleaning for a while and see how she does.

Just quick question instead of starting a new post. What are some signs of a ebps going bad or clogged?

Alan you are saying it should read 10-15psi at idle with the EPBV open? My BP guage does not move at idle, and it barely creeps up when im just tooling around. Max i've seen from my 1.15 housing is 42psi.

Kris yes on the BP Valve open and with a stock exhaust system (turbo and pipes) yes, but you are very close to a 1:1 drive ratio with the 1.15 housing. 42 is not over the max stated by Ford, those reading from my mine are not WOT readings just normal acceleration/driving. Stock i could see mid to upper 40's and even some 50's with just normal acceleration.

But wouldn't 10-15psi at idle mean that the turbo is making boost, not 10psi or so, but enough to make a guage move!

How much boost do you build in park revving at 2500rpm?

I'll get some datalogs tommorrow and post them

OK, I just looked at this post and I'm thinking that we are confusing boost with exhaust pressure. Is not the EBV sensor connected to the exhaust manifold which will provide pressure from the manifold log when running regardless of what is going on in the intake side? Someone school me if I am wrong. I see a running engine pushing exhaust through a manifold, turbo, and exhaust having some PSI.

My system with the current turbo setup does not budge the gauge at idle, barely at high idle.(1200). The EBP sensor reads pressure out of the exhaust manifold, correct. However one of the three main factors to produce boost is exhaust backpressure, and with the stock turbo, you will be running about 5psi of boost at 10psi backpressure. Since the engine is under no load and is not flowing alot of air at idle, i dont see how it can be 15psi. Maybe im still a

Maybe it's not a gauge 1 for 1 reading and those numbers are more for a scan. I don't know, but in the same way a gasser will produce a vacuum, even at idle half if 7.3 liters of displacement idling away will make some pressure. Now you have a gauge, and I cannot explain your findings until I run the AE on mine, and look in the shop manual.

If I remember correctly, the ebps reads absolute pressure, not gauge pressure. Thats why at idle it reads 14 - 15 psi
