What lock ***** are correct?

I've searched the forums and come up short...

Which lock ***** are correct for a '73-'79, are they ONLY supposed to be the hexigonal ones? because mine has round ones just like these, and the guys is saying they are for that application: eBay Link

Mine is a '74 with '79 front clip so I'm not picky about making it correct for it's year, just it's model.

From the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog

1973/74 F100/350: C8AZ-6221850-A .. Lock ****-Chrome ~ Round Head

1975/79 F100/350: D5TZ-1021850-A .. Lock ****-Black ~ Octagon Head

1975/79 Crew Cab Rear Door: D5OZ-6521850-A .. Lock ****-Chrome ~ Octagon Head
C8AZ ***** were also used on 1968/78 Ford Passenger Cars.

Confusion time: Ford replaced the C8AZ ***** in 1979 with the D5TZ *****.

You wrote that up very clearly, hopefully it helps someone searching later on. Thank you very much!! I will be going with the round head as it has more appeal to me. Funny they were eight sided and not six like the wiper *****... Oh well, Engineers are not of this world.

Parts guys would sell the customer anything they wanted, used car lots would stick anything on there, ppl would find something they liked better at a junkyard. So without the parts catalog, who would know what is correct and what isn't.

Another little thing I jotted down.

Why'd the Crew cabs got the chrome ***** on the rear doors??

I've found when wandering around Pick-N-Pull, you start to figure out what should be on certain years, and what shouldn't. But out there all I saw was the Octagonal, I assumed the ***** on mine were just cheap replacments, although there has been no reason in the past for them to be changed. So yes, without your info I would have used the chrome octagonal, and the round ones may have been lost forever...

Dunno...makes no sense to me...and those CC chrome octagon ***** weren't used anywhere on other Ford F Series trucks...maybe we should ask Ford.

But, by now, there's prolly no one left at Ford that remembers...or will admit to remembering.

Just a side note...vent frames can be pried open, windows could be lowered a bit for ventilation while parked....coat hangers can hook around those octagon *****, while they'll slip off the round headed ones...something to consider.

You know I had a stupid moment in my life a few days ago, I was sitting at work, with nothing to do (Ford Tech) and I started pondering if lock ***** were engineered to prevent theft. The way most completly sink into the door panel now. And how the square ones (like on Windstars) Could probably be hooked easier because of the grippy texture on the side of them. I pondered every aspect of lock ***** there was. At the time it seemed pretty stupid, but with you pointing out the difference in the round and octagonal *****, thats the difference in having your truck stolen!

Ford offered on the rear doors of station wagons beginning in 1969, a chrome lock "****"....it was a straight shaft, no **** of any kind. (C9AZ-71431A36-A) We sold a chit load of those to many ppl when it was discovered they would work on the front door lock **** rods. Ford, beginning in 1979, used them everywhere on everything (except the trucks and vans, they got them in the 80's), and prolly still uses them today.

Weird, I was sorting Ford parts in the garage today and came across some door lock *****.

2 black smooth

and

4 black Octanganal

Of course I found all kinds of fancy aftermarket ones as well dating back to the 60's .

Just an extra bit of information, if anyone is trying to find the C8AZ's, the ones I got on eBay were actually Scott Drake Reproduction ***** (www.ScottDrake.com). I don't know why the seller didn't list the P/N and who they were made by, I think that info would make them sell better. Oh well...

The quality is ok, They are just lock ***** i guess. There is a mark on the side where the plastic was injected into the mold. Just in case anyone was wondering...

I know that this is an old thread but I just happened upon it and it reminded me of something. Some friends of mine worked at the Twin Cites Ford plant in Minnesota years ago. I asked them if they ever ran out of parts and if so what would they do? They would use what ever they had to keep production going. They were told if the customers didn't like it, the dealer would have to fix it.

hey i worked at the spring hill tn saturn plant and if things ran down the line screwed up we did the same. besides it puts money in techs at the dealers. we had a big run of flat painted doors, and the area leader said there was nothing wrong with them. they later get changed at the dealerships. another cost brilliant cost costing move putting gm more in debt. but who cares its not ford right?

hmm, i wonder if that's why my mom's new Edge has mismatched wheel center caps. I'm going to have to fix it but warranty will cover it... never the less it's odd.

But I've seen lots of mis-built stuff too. Like bolts coming from the top for the fuel tank straps... cuz the truck chassis are built without a body on them so the tech building it wouldn't have known probably.
