Guy's, I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death on this forum, but I don't have time to look through 10,000 threads. I am looking at a 07 F350 CC LB 4X4 6 Speed. This truck has to be reliable as it will be used as my company truck. I have heard all the bad things about the 6, but they have to have it figured out by now, right? So, what I am asking, is there any common problems with the 07's. I only know two people with 6 liters, and niether had good outcomes. One had an 04 and blew his engine with a chip (idiot), the other guy has an 05 and it spent 4 weeks at the dealer while they "waited for the right tool to fix it" WTF. That would put me out of business. This truck will be driven 30k+ miles per year with a good mix of highway and city driving. I haul around 2000# everday in the bed and tow a 5000# to 7000# enclosed trailor a few days a week. So I know I don't need a diesel, but it never stopped me in the past! Thanks.

I studied this long and hard before buying a new 07 over a new 08. I choose the 07 cause the technology was through the buggy stage as proven by the tsp's. Look at the highly toted cummings and you will see that in its beginning it had most of the same problems and then some of the 6.0 before becomming a solid preformer. The 6.0 has past the teething stage and its basic design is modern and inherently stronger then the cummings old technology. I started a thread asking for info from those that had trashed Ford engines and all of the replies listing the 6.0. two,, were because of mods and admitted to by the owners. The 08's new engine which is simply an upgraded 6.0 by the way was only upgraded to met new emission standards and can be trashed if run on sulphered D or bio D made from a source that used oil from deep frying onion rings. While there are lots of neat stuff on the 08 not found on the 07 I was more interested in dependability and the better fuel economy of the 6.0 over the new 6.4
My research on this site led me to purchase on 06 6.0l with alot of confidence. I am sure the 07 is even better. What I believe is that Ford continually worked out the bugs and that the later the model year, the better.

Hey flux, I aggree, and I did the same at this site, others, and even at Ford. Shoot, I almost bought a cummins till I started hearing about cracked frames, blowed trannies, from farmer logger friends that own them. I want a truck that can work hard and the SD is the best of the breed in that respect. Aint never heard of a Ford cracking a cab or frame have you?
There are almost no changes that I could find between the 06-07, 6.0 except head bolts and head gaskets. 07's have the same ones as the 6.4. What they don't tell you is that the 6.4 is just a smogged 6.0 and they started to make the change over on a very few parts before the 6.4 was outa the box so to speak.

I agree. I purchased an 07 recently after reading up on this site for a few months.
Did the same research last year prior to the 6.4's release. Too much new technology, mostly in electronics, etc. for emissions was our worry. While the 6.4 looks to be pretty good so far and has some neat features I'd like, the '07 has a bit more capacity and there are just very few complaints on these later 6.0s. We love ours and would probably even make the same decision today.
One disconcerting thing on the 6.4, is that it sounds like they programmed in a shut down mode as part of the near term fix for that flame thrower problem (if it senses one of the injectors is off, it'll shut'er down). Just too much new and unproven yet on the 6.4, besides the basic engine/trans, which I agree should be just fine w/o the emissions junk.
I also agree that the 6 speed is something I'd re-think if I were you -- that torqshift is bulletproof and quite a nice transmission!
Other than a few nagging oil leaks, my '05 has been rock solid. Change your fluids on time as they are picky about good clean oil and fuel filters. But the good thing is, they are so easy to change on this truck.
The Torqshift may be a work of art, but the 6 spd is a ton of fun and I think it is one of the reasons I get such good fuel economy in the city.
Interesting... Now I'd expect some loss of efficiency in gears vs. hydraulic, the TS you can shift manually if you want (1st is 1st, 2nd is 2nd, etc., it's not like other auto's that just use the gear selected as the top gear the auto can use).
So where do you think that extra fuel mileage comes from?
And I drive one of the bikes or the sportscar for fun -- last PSD I drove with a 6 spd.: it was 2nd gear starts and lots of "work"....

..
On the auto it is constantly slipping until the torque converter locks up. The 6 speed slips for the 1 second you are letting the clutch out in first gear. Plus you get more engine deceleration where the fuel is shut off with the 6 speed.
On a side note, I get better in the city than alot on this board get on the highway.
I also have the 6 speed, and I love to drive it. I have been getting equal or better mileage than my dads torqueshift since day 1, and his is only 2WD.
Mine is an 07 with almost 10,000 miles, and it has not even had a hiccup since I picked it up. I love this truck, I don't worry about it at all.
