Thanks for the reassurance guys, I thought that the 07's should be good to go, but you know all the stuff that is said about these engines. Like I said, I depend on my truck to earn a living and 4 weeks at the dealer is unacceptable, so I had to ask. As far as the 6 speed, I am up in the air on this one. The dealer that has this truck also has a lariat with an auto in the same configuration, but with a sticker price that is 6k higher. I have'nt owned a manual trans in quite some time and I miss it, but I also remember it being a PITA in traffic. So I don't know what to do. This truck has all the options I want except it is a 6 speed.

When I am driving around town all day I am glad I got the auto. When I hit the road towing our fifth wheel I wish I had the standard. Just depends what you need it the most for. Unless your really lucky and can afford to buy one of each.

I was in the same boat as you before I bought my 07. Did all the research and didn't want to be the Guinea pig on the 6.4. Look at the history of the 6.0, 6.6 Duramax, and 5.9 Cummins. They all had problems in their first and second year. Heck I owned an 04 Cummins and had 2 injectors replaced at 8000 miles! Now watch the new 6.7 cummins have the same problems. I went with the Lariat package. All I can say is this is absolutely one awesome truck! And all the "bugs" should be worked out. Just a nice piece of mind. Plus I wouldn't want the emissions junk in my exhaust system. I think that is a big problem just waiting to happen. Just my 2 cents

Im thinking if your going to put 30 k miles a year on it,,,,,you should be fine with the 6.0,,seems like the trucks that sit alot,,have most of the problems,,I met a guy, that had a 05' with the 6.0,,asked him how you like it ? He said well im on my 2nd turbo with 7,500 miles on the truck,,,Im like gee's thats not good,,now this was like 5 months ago,,I said to him how come such low mileage ? He said it mostly sits,,he drives his old 7.3 work truck more.

I told him,,,well thats probobly the problem,,turbo rusting up,,,You gotta drive it man,,and don't baby it,,bring that boost up,,clean it out, run Diesel Kleen in it every tank,,,at the time my 06', 6.0 had around 19k on it with no issues,,now with over 21k on it,,runs like a beast,,had it up to 95 mph the other day, pulled like a SOB, then backed it down to 80 and cruised.

PS, I also have the TS tranny,,this is a awsume tranny,,and when towing, if heavy enough to use Tow/Haul mode,,you will be amazed at how well it slow the vehicle down,,It's like Wooooohh,,thats cool, as it down shifts 4th, 3rd, 2nd. Good luck with any new truck you decide on !

OK guy's, I think I will see what the dealer will do on the lariat, torqshift truck. I like the idea of the 6 speed, now, but the miles I put on and the fact that I am in town often enough, I think I might get sick of it. As far as the truck sitting for a while, my concern is that this truck has been sitting on the dealer lot for some time. Am I going to have problems right off the bat because of this? Also, this is a crew cab long box 4X4. Currently I have a 02 crew cab short box 4X4. I know the newer front ends have a tighter turning radius, but how they compare? Thanks again.

the past! Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Sounds good! Where's the keg?<smile>
Let us know what you opt for. The difference in price betqween 08, 07 new is nothing or the torqshift verses 6 speed. However, if you can find a new or near new 06 you will save a bundle and end up with basically an 07. Mountain home auto sales in Idaho may have one new xlt cc 2006 model left. At least they had last time I talked to Rodger a salesman for them.

Go for all the sissy stuff. This time I even got a moon roof thinking it was a useless thing and expensive. The only 07 I could find properly equipped had the moon so I just went for it. Now, after a couple of months all I can say is that it was money well spent. Nice to look up while driving at night to see the stars or the moon. Just don't forget to close it before it rains hard<smile>. The 6 grand more for the auto Lariet includes tons of options not available on the xlt like in dash enhanced computer with compass and miles to empty, auto climate control, and several more frills. I like that sissy stuff but it does cost anmd they are just frills.

I have an 05 with the 6 Spd. and I love it. I must admit it is a little sluggish until it spools up then she really goes. I love manual trannys but you really have to drive the new auto they are very nice they keep the engine in the sweet spot all the time but for me I fear a auto tranny failure after abuse. (Not starting any stick vs auto thing here just my opinion)

I think they got most of the bugs out by 07 I lost a fuel pump and a injector but that has been it in 27,000 miles.
Love the power it pulls like nothing I have owned before.
You may want to look at 4.10 gears since you will be heavy all the time.
I don't think you will regret the 07 good luck and let us know when you get it.

Well, now I don't know about an 07. The dealer I was at has at least 6 or 7 07's on the lot. They also have ton's of 08's so I figured they would deal on the left over trucks. The salesman told me I can get 7k off sticker with rebates. The truck I was looking at has a sticker of 49k, so I'd be paying 42k before tax, title, etc. This isn't a good enough deal for me to buy a truck that isn't optioned exactly as I want it. I think I will tell him to call me when they are serious about selling this thing.

NS F250, you should be able to get a better deal than that on the 07. Right now they have 3500 rebate, so he is only giving you 3500 off MSRP. That is still probably 1500 above dealer invoice. You should be able to get him down to dealer invoice, if not I think there is a thread on here where you can request an X plan pin number. With the X plan you will be able to buy the truck for 0.4% below dealer invoice plus a $75 fee. On the Lariat Super Duty that usually turns out to be right around $100 below invoice. I would think that you would probably be able to get the truck right around $40k.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I can tell you that I am extremely happy with my 07, even though it has meant I will probably be living in an apartment for a couple more years rather than buying a house this year like I originally planned.

Yeah, thats what I thought. The odd thing is, the guy said he could order me a new truck for $200 over invoice. And I didn't even ask about it. So I guess I see why they have so many left over 07's on the lot when they sell 08's for less. Luckily I don't have to get a new truck right now, so I do have some bargaining power. We'll see how bad they want to sell me a truck.

I would say try and work the dealer down for the Lariat. I have the XLT, and while I absolutely love my truck, if I did it again, I would probably get the lariat. I went with the XLT because I am not a fan of leather seats, but I wish I could have the extra little things the lariat has.

As far as the turning radius, I can't speak from a lot of experience here, but I am VERY impressed. I have an 07 F-350 CC LB 4x4 and I am impressed at how tight it will turn. It won't turn on a dime of course because it is a huge truck, but its not bad for how big it is. My mom had a 95 F-350 CC LB 2WD, and it seemed like it took a whole city block to get that thing turned around.

Good luck with whatever you get. Like it has been said, get in that thing and drive it, she will love you for it and never let you down.

Mainly wanted to comment specifically on this. One of the main if not the main issue with the 6.0s sitting was the turbo vanes would rust up. There was an update done to the turbo in late '05 to correct this (additional machining), which by all accounts I can see on this board has worked. If you get an '06 make sure it's build date is after 12/05 or any '07 will have the updated turbo.

Go for the Lariat -- we did and we love it! You only live once!! As far as price, you should be able to get an '07 well behind invoice at this time. Didn't check to see where you live, but Suburban Ford in Sandy OR gives a straight deal to FTE members that will beat Xplan. You can check with them for what they have and will do on an '07 (see the forum on "new Ford buyer" here on FTE).

Goog luck!!!

I love my Lariat package. I got the captains chairs so we could reach the back seat as we have the dog along on road trips and she needs a pat on the head here and there to keep her cool. I got all the options and no regrets, it's a luxury beast and I love it. The leather may not be the highest quality, but it cleans up easy.

My truck sits all week and I drive it religiously on the weekends. I do live in the desert so rust is minimal. I think running an additive is a good choice too. Drive it hard after it's warmed up and it will be fine. The T/H is a great feature and really adds alot of safety when hauling.

I was just down in Lake Havasu with the boat over the holiday. The absolute truck of choice down there was the Superduty 6.0l. They outnumbered everything else combined 2:1 for hauling everyone's $100k hotboats. These are folks with the money to choose whatever truck they want, they choose the 6.0l. Folks like us maybe need to be a bit more careful with our $$'s, so we do our research. Never see so many modded up diesels before, every lift wheel tire grill combo ever.

If you buy that Lariat, break it in nice, keep it well maintained and use a fuel additive. Watch your turbo for hiccups and be proactive if you think something is funny. Make sure to work it hard when you can and enjoy it. These are the last of the minimal emissions trucks and a wise purchase if you really want/need a great diesel truck.

I just purchased an early '05 from my local dealer. I have a couple of friends that work there ( friends before they worked there) that I trust. One is a service writer and the other 2 are techs. The service writer looked up my trucks warranty and service records and to current date no major issues. The techs both assured me that as long as I stay away from chips and lifts I would be fine. The techs also told me they haven't lost a torqueshift in their shop yet. They told me the programmers are a 50/50 shot. Basically don't add anything that adds heat and you will be fine from '05 up. I trust these guys and their opinions (obviously since I bought one) Thats my 2 cents anyway
