windshield cowl repair

Has anyon replaced the windshield cowl panel. My truck had a camper on it and it has "38" holes in it from the PO mounting the camper shocks. Is it an 'easy' task? I know the windshield has to come out. Thanks

The cowl panel isn't removable. It's one large section that includes a portion of the inner windshield posts and is welded on.

Hey Lance,
Like Bill says, the cowl is not considered a removable part. It is welded to most everything on the front of your cab and to remove it will risk altering the fit of everything else.

But if you were determined to replace the cowl, give me a shout and I will look into cutting one off a cab with a good cowl but bad floor pan. We could decide the best places to cut the good cowl where you get the most factory seams and loose the least amount of your cabs front integrity.

It's not something you want to just start cutting into without knowing what is involved! You might look into patching the holes in your cowl, specially if your cowl isn't rusty at all? I could round up some smaller cowl "skin" cuts if you needed them?

Thanks, Mike.

I know i need to replace my driverside cowl, so i'm just going to go through lmc they have a replacement panel for it. It runs about 80.00 It shoudn't be to hard as long as it is a small section like mine it is really dented but the dent only runs up to the raised section just before the vent holes.

I've done some repairs on cowls with damage/rust issues before. On one I had to replace the entire cowl. I took it apart at the factory seams. It's quite labor intensive, but not any kind of rocket science to do at all.... On the others I replaced the damaged sections of the cowl with pieces from a donor truck. I prefer to flange the pieces and tig them in. A good powerful magnet works great at holding them in place on something like a cowl where there is no access from the rear. If you used this method, be sure to use some weld thru primer on the back side of the patch before welding it in.....
