Surgeing / No Power

Ok so here's the story. I had a 2000 7.3L (LOVED IT!) we had a freak ice strom about 2 months ago and I had a car jump the median on a freeway and come into my lane. Needless to say I avoided the car, but ended up rolling it down a hill about 8 times then she burned up.

Anyway I bought a 2005 6.0L and I've noticed two main differences.

1. The truck will surge in "Drive" and/or "Reverse" it's almost like someone is pressing the throttle while I've got the break applied. This never happed with my good old 7.3L.

2. My 6.0L does not have any guts out of the hole. I step on the throttle and can count of two seconds before the truck even desides to move. I was told that it may be "Turbo Lag". But my 7.3L had a turbo and I could light up the tires at will. What gives? How come an engin with more horsepower can't even break the tires loose?

So any insight ono these two problems I would really appreciate it.

Thanks guys!

My truck only has 30,000 miles on it. It doens't have any mods on it yet. I did purchase a CAI and also when I get he insurance claim settled I'm planning on putting the Banks "Monster" setup onthe truck. But before I do anything to it. I really need to get the thing running correctly while it's stock.

I think I'm working with a pretty good dealer (Boyer Ford in Minneapolis) but I've had it into them twice and they still have not been able to resolve the issue. Thats why I've turned to this forum. Maybe other people are or have expernced the same issues and could give me a little guidence so I could maybe help my dealership get the thing fixed.

This has been very frustrating. I really wish I had my 7.3L back. Or should of sucked it up an bought a 6.4L.

Any other help or suggestions would still be much appreciated! Thanks!

In 30K miles it could have injector stiction issues depending how it was serviced by the previous owner. Also could be an EGR or turbo problem. If your dealer cannot find a problem then find a different dealer with a qualified and trained 6.0 diesel tech. Also they can give you a data logging scan tool that will record intermitant problems.

Do a search around here and lose the CAI, as they are a waste of time on the 6.0 until you reach 500+ Hp. Also they can void your warranty.
As for the banks package do not waste your money, their Hp module is hard on the engine & transmission. The only product they have for the 6.0 that is decent is their Intercooler and CAC pipe kit. For everything else go else where.

For a "tuner" [Not a chip/inline fuel module, like Banks, Edge, Dr P etc] the preferred choice for the 6.0 is the SCT XcalII with custom tunes from Matt (PSD 60L Fx4) at LIPD, he is the leading 6.0 performance guru.
www.lidiesel.com

For exhaust go with MBRP, Cat back or Turbo back(may cause warranty issues).

Hope this helps

Read all of the threads and enjoy, there is a Ton of information in this forum. Also read the 6.0 Tech folder at the top of the forum for some good general information.

I know you liked and miss your 7.3 but you will learn to love the 6.0 and the power it has over the 7.3. Not to mention the Torqueshift transmission.

The 6.0 has its quirks just like the 7.3 did. Some things just need to be done differently on the 6.0 than on the 7.3, just keep and open mind. One thing that is the same as far as mods is the "Cross over fuel line kit" is beneficial for both the 6.0 & 7.3 for all the same reasons.

I also see you like to shoot

Start with the fuel filters, and use motorcraft ones, If you bought the truck used the lower one may not have ever been changed, since many people think it only needs changed once a year They've gotta be done at least every 15k.
My other guess would be sticking injectors.
