Exclamation gear ratios

i just blew my rear end and put in a new one, the new one has 3.55 gears, the front end says that it has 3.54 gears, can i still use 4wd, i figured that the transfer case is geared weird so that u would need a different ratio in the front, need to know, want to go WHEELIN

Wheel away man...wheel away. That little bit of difference won't hurt anything. Now if you had a 3.54 front and 4.10 rear then you're looking for trouble.

Welcome to FTE .

I have found several (mostly older ) truck with with slightly faster front than rear .

The 3:54 to 3:55 for example . The old 70's power wagon plow truck is like that.
Wheel away like FORDMAN say

i think that happens because most vehicles have different manufacturers for the front and rear axle, so gear ratios from say dana to sterling don't match exactly. but like they said, that little bit of difference is ok.

Sometimes that is by design so the front will want to stay in front.

i've heard that too, but i don't think 3.54 and 3.55 is going to make that much of a difference in keeping the front spinning faster. maybe it's for when the front tires are turned to alleviate any binding front to back.

My 77 F250 is like that, 4.09:1 front and 4.10:1 rear. Works great going forward but it acts like a bucking bronco in going backwards on dry ground when in 4 wheel drive.

I did not say pavement, it was a cleared gravel store parking lot that had been plowed.
The roads were snow covered.
