well i guess that i decided to yank the ole grease trap. i have a 1988 5.8 f-250 4x4, I have already changed the valve covers while in truck. but now my oil pan gasket is leaking and i am going to change all the oil sealing gaskets, man this is one greasy truck. the p.o owner had leaky valve covers and just kept adding oil and i guess it just kept rotting all the gaskets from the contional oil leak. i was just wondering what else i should do while the motor is pulled. while i am at it we are going to steam clean the whole engine compartment and engine.
It would be a good time to re-build or at the very least re-ring and rod bearings along with a valve job. Its seems to be a lot of work just to reseal. Oh and a timing gear/chain water pump Do a compression check and see if it is time to rebuild
With that much oil blowing around I would suggest you check/replace all the rubber goods such as hoses and belts. Also I would take a look at the motor mounts.Constant exposure to oil tends to soften rubber parts.Something else I would do is to replace all of the freeze/soft/core plugs. These are pretty easy with the engine out but they a normally a royal PITA with the engine in the truck.Hope this helps.
yea the oil in this truck could supply a third world country, the p.o said that it was easier to add oil than replace the valve cover gaskets. oh the motor mount were replaced because guess what, the oil messed up the rubber on them and seperated.
believe it or not it only has 83000 actual verifiable miles on. it it was small town fire truck, that sat in the bay till they drove the crap out of it going to a grass fire.
