I just recently made my fourth Ford purchase. An 02 Expy. Fairly low mileage. So far quite happy with it.
I do have a couple of ?s for the experts in the crowd though. When I was going through my test drive with the dealer I didnt use the cruise control and after having it for a couple of days I finally attempted to use it. Alas it was inoperable. The cruise light comes on but thats it. Is there something mechanically I can look for on the motor something that maybe isnt hooked up the way its supposed to be, or is this some sort of computer problem?
Also I was poking around the forum here and noticed that there have been some Ck Susp light problems as well which I also seem to have. After about 20 min of driving the light comes on but nothing seems to be wrong with the vehicle. And as soon as I turn the vehicle off and then back on the light is out and remains out for another 20-25 min. Im thinking probably a sensor or somethinig somewhere. Im just hoping its not a recurring problem if I take it in for a fix.
Anyway its good to be here and hopefully all my posts wont be gripes or questions.
Thanx in advance for any insight you all may have for me.
The first thing I would check with the cruise is that the recall has been done on it. It might be the previous owner just disconnected the problematic wire and disabled the CC instead of having the recall performed. I suppose since you got it at the dealer they should have checked that, but then you never truly know.
And I believe that the Ck Susp light is coming on becuase your compressor is not turning off. Can you listen for it and see (hear) if it ever goes off?
The compressor should come on as soon as you start up the truck after sitting over night, or you can get a few of your close friends to climb on the rear fender and turn the truck on it should not run for more than 5 mins if runs for much longer you have a problem, how to solve it ( I do not know). hope it helps!
Sometimes, in my truck, the chk susp switch (near the passenger seat kick panel) gets banged accidently by the passenger or gear adrift on the passenger seat floor. Sometimes, it will jostle it only slightly and even in the middle of driving which causes the light to come on; I just stop and push it fully in the on position. When I do that, I've noticed that the switch is not particulary 'tight' in terms of staying in place (either on or off), probably due to age. Check your switch and see if it's 'loose' like that.
I sure am.....whos this?....and I swear those pictures arent really me.
Scott Cravens, as soon as I saw Wardogg you were the first person that popped into mind then looked at where you live and thougt no way. So how you liking Hi? I am back crewing 46's and about to get out and be a full time college student cause my sugar momma has a good job and I am tired of being a stuck at Sgt with at least another year before I am in the below zone. Any ways how you likin your new truck?
WADOGG, even though your truck isn't part of the recall check it out anyway.
Look at the end of the master cylinder. You will see an electrical connector there plugged into a pressure switch. Unplug it and look closely in the switch and in the connector for traces of fluid (brake fluid).. if any is found LEAVE IT UNPLUGGED and replace that switch.
If it is dry then plug it back in. You might also want to be sure it has the new designed switch installed. If the electrical connector has two tabs (one on each end) you have to press together to unplug it, it is the old design switch. The new switch has a center tab you press in to unplug it.
Also the new switch has a big fat metal base (19mm wrench will fit it I think), whereas the old switch has a narrow, plastic base (15mm wrench). If you have the old stitch I would make it a high priority to replace it with the new design.. even IF you're not involved in the recall.
You'll also want to unplug the connector at the cruise control module.. if you follow the accelerator cable for the cruise, the box that leads to is the module. Unplug the electrical connector to it and make sure there are no burnt wires or brake fluid at that end of the harness... if any is found you'll probably need to replace the harness and module as well, but that's extremely rare.
If all is good up to this point, check the basics.. make sure the throttle linkage for the cruise is connected and not kinked anywhere.. and check all the fuses. Let me know if you're still having problems at this point and I'll try to help further.
Cravens....whats up dude. Back to 46s!?!...yeah I'd get out and go to school too LOL. Good luck in school. The Expy is OK, once I can get these two problems figured out it'll be perfect.
GuyinSTL thanx for the info. It does look like I have the old switch but for now it appears to be dry...no fluid. Becuase I dont have the owners manual I dont know which fuses are for the cruise control. The cover plates don't have the info on it. So I am unable to check those but the ones I looked at were all ok. Everything else appears to be hooked up with no damage or anything. The accelerator linkage at the throttle body has a little play in it....maybe 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. Not sure if that is normal or not. I wouldnt think that little would make the CC totally inop. Hopefully the module isnt toast or something. Does the Cruise light run off a different circuit or is it tied into the module? Maybe the cable inside the shroud is busted or something. Let me know if you think of anything else.
Well i got the cruise working. I guess messing around with the connectors did it. I didnt do anything else. So thats good. Now for this susp light.........
