if any of you have been keeping up with my latests posts you are aware of me getting my bronco stuck in a deep water hole.
well today i decided to check to see if there was water in the rear diff. so i drove the truck 5-10 minutes to get it all warm and took out the filler plug and put my finger in. i was under the impression that the oil would look like milky coffee if there was water in it but it didn't. it did look like the oil was a little thin and didnt stick to my finger well. when i had the rear seals replaced the local brake shop put in the LS additive in when i don't have one so i went ahead and changed the fluid in it anyway.
couple of questions.
water in the diff , would it look milky ?
what the best diff fluid to use ? i bought synthetic mobil 75/140 is this ok ? its already in so i hope so.
The Mobil is fine. I just use al cheapo 90/140 in mine because it gets submerged in water and changed out often. A couple of times mine has had water in it yet it didn't look milky. I guess it hadn't mixed with the gear oil yet. I could see it in the drain pan though.
