I traded my trusty 98 XLT 4x4 for a new 2007 4x2 XLT today. Oddly enough I went to the dealer to look at an Escape Hybrid but quickly realized that it was far too small for my needs. I tested an 07 Explorer and I could not justify downsizing and still dropping at least $30k.
After a lot of haggling I ended up getting considerably more than my trade was worth, plus I got a nice deal on the price of the 07.
After test driving an 04 and being very unimpressed I did not have high hopes for the 07 until I took it for a spin. It felt very solid and it is way peppier than the 4.6 4x4.
The only options it has is the 3rd row seating and rear air/heat.
If anyone is even thinking of steping up to an 07 all you need to do is take it for a ride.
I bought my '07 EB last October and absolutely love it! I traded in my '99 EB and got a good deal for it. I actually went to look at the '06's as they were advertising year end clearance prices but when I got to my dealer I found the '07 was $4000 cheaper than the sale price on the '06. No brainer to me. The '07 is definately a head turner wherever we go.
