I made the mistake of using a fram fuel filter on my last change because the local stores didn't carry the motorcraft brand fuel filter for some reason. The fram filter is about half the size of the original filter....seems strange to me. I'm going to just wait till the next change is due before I go ahead and just order a motorcraft one, unless anyone knows of any problems with using the fram instead....
Then you got the wrong fuel filter.
I used a Fram too - fit right in place of the stock one.
How much is a motorcraft fuel filter from the stealership?
I paid $7 at Advance Auto Parts for a motorcraft fuel filter. I was pleasantly surprized that they carry them. Also bought a Purolator Pure One air filter for $17 (they were having a 25% off sale on all air filters...would have bought 2 if they had them).
unclip the "L" clips (if you have some), off of the 5/16 line
put the removal tool, over the line and slide it into the filter neck, it should snap or you should feel it unclip from the filter
pull the line out (prepare for slight fuel dripage.......wear old clothes)
repeat with second line................
pulling the filter out of that pesky little frame holder may be a trick but you should be able to pull the lower part of the bracket down slightly and manuver the filter out. different people find different ways that make removal easy for them!
It is on the drivers side frame rail....back about by the door. Another tip is to pull the fuel pump fuse and let the truck run till it is out of gas. There is no fuel pressure that way.
