I just got done installing my new 428 in my 76 F250 4x4. I ran into a problem with clearance between headers and front driveshaft (1/8"). I believe there would be enough room with the original low pinion D44, but I swaped for a high pinion D60. The only way of fixing this is a suspention lift as far as I can tell.
I really dont want to lift the truck any more than I have to. With that being said, I have been searching for the stock ride height so I can determine how much lift I need. I think there is about 3" of sag in the originals. The rear springs are touching the overloads. If so I could get by with a 2"(= 5"), other wise I will have to go with 4".
Or I anyone can tell how much sag by just looking at it, please see my gallary. It has 35x10.5x16's.
A 4" kit would be the obvious answer, the only downside is that most 4" kits install lift blocks in the rear, that have to be stacked on top of the factory blocks. Under heavy 4wheeling (like shown in your gallery), the blocks can be "spit out", especially under the torque of your 428. Although lift blocks in the front is a definite no no, what I've done in the past for sagging springs, is add a couple extra leafs under the factory springs. You would have to remove the center pins, and replace them with longer ones, and possbly new u-bolts if your stock ones are to short. If you keep the new leafs relatively short, they should not affect the ride quality. This would be the cheapest and easiest way to gain 2" - 3", and it's also safe. Just a thought!
The 4" lift I found (Skyjacker) is an all leaf system. But at the price of $1250.
Were can I get extra leafs and how much. I really dont care about the ride quality. Would longer ones gain more height? I use this truck for mud drags and putting around on gravel roads at about 20 MPH.

I've gone about it 2 different ways. I've used junkyard springs, and I've also bought new ones from a local spring shop. when searching the junkyards, all you really need to look for is a set of springs with the same width. I usually end up using just the lower 2 or 3 springs from the spring pack, and add them to my springs with new center pins. Junkyard springs can run from $20 - $30 a piece, but there cheaper if you pull them apart and just buy the leaves you need. If your u-bolts are too short, new ones will run about $30 per set of 4. If you have a local spring shop near you like I do, you just tell them the width of your springs, and order 2 - 3 leafs per side, the same length as your bottom spring. Also, you can pick up the center pins at the spring shop while you're there. Your local spring shop can re-arch your springs, but that can be pricey.
