Would the complete front suspension from a late 70's (78) fit under a 1970 model truck? I have a gentleman who says the I-beams and everything will swap over to my 70 model to convert it to power steering. I didn't think it would be a direct swap as the later 70's had wider frames but I thought I would consult with the all-knowing Ford Fans here.
EDIT: Nevermind...I found the answers to my question Seek and ye shall find...
YES, we do it all the time, and you will get P/D/B's too.
You can use an F-100 or F-150 and if you can find a 78-79, F-150 Trailer Special you can get 14 x 1.125 rotors like an F-250 BUT with 5 lug on 5.5" Centers just like F-100. They also have larger4 calipers on the trailer Spcl's too.
The wider frames occur behind the cab in the C-A area on 1973 & later thru 1979. Otherwise frame is identical from the rear Cab Mounts forward to the Support Core Mounts.
Mongrel Motorsports has a great Tech Article here on the very subject of upgrading, FWIW.
A bit to add to this.I recently discovered that an F250 with single piston calipers in the 73 -79 range used the same spindles, bearings, seals and brake parts as the F100's and F150's.All that's different is the rotors. In my case it saved me from buying parts I already have.
That's true on F-250s with 5999#GVW or less, even the I Beams & Radius arms are the same. But F-250's with 6900# or more GVW use F-350 stuff & it definitely is not the same as the light duty F-250, a F-150 or an F-100, FWIW.
