Go to your local bone yard and pick one up. I would think the late 60's-70's trucks and vans would be a good pick. The parts you need to adapt the C4 will not be found used easily. Advance Adapters makes the conversion kit for around $500.
i think it almost has to come out of a early bronco. went through this same search. all the pickups with 4x4 had c6's that i found. i found a junk yard that had 6 early bronco's in it. only 1 had a c4 in it. had to buy the whole thing to get it $800. but now i have the steering column, pedals, and the transmission. not too bad of a way to get it now i have some extra's now.
You can use any C4 tranny. But the adapter and rear shaft are Bronco secific. The rest of the linkage and misc parts can be made to fit with some mechanical ability. The adapter kits can be had at a price. Ford no longer offers any of the original parts.See if this link will get you anywhere.
All ford c-4's are NOT the same. There is a longer version that is used in normal applications, and a shorty for other apps. The shorter version is the one used in the early bronco. It also has the the cast aluminum removable bell housing. You will also need the intermediate tailhousing that goes between the tranny and transfer case, the shift steering column (or go with a floor shifter, but if you have a 72 or later with the J-shift dana 20, make sure that the shifters dont conflict). I've done this swap more than once but all of them were t-shift dana 20's and I also used the shifter on the column. MAKE SURE THAT YOU DONT DROP ANY OF THE 13 NEEDLE BEARINGS IN THE TRANSFER RECEIVER GEAR INTO THE T-CASE!!!!! Nothing holds them in, and when you pull the 3-speed intermediate shaft out they can fall into the t-case. Just a warning, hehehe. If you still need the intermediate adapter or tranny at this present time I can hook you up. I know of several people sitting on the tranny/ih/d-20 complete combo for less $$$ than advance wants for just the adapter. peace......
Sorry I haven't gotten back.
I've searched the local yards several times since I put this post up and still no luck. I would like the C4, bellhousing, and the adapter for the d20. I don't necessarly need the D20, I can get one of those.
I bought one off ebay a few months ago for $182. It came with the complete transmission, adapter, dana 20, both driveshafts, kickdown linkage, shift linkage, crossmember, transfer case shift lever, neutral saftey switch and wiring, flywheel, bolts, etc. All C4 trannys are the same. But you need the adapter and rear shaft that are Bronco specific, instead of the standard tailhousing. The other linkage and parts are generic to most car and truck smallblocks with automatics. You need to be able to recognize the easy to find parts from boneyards. If you ask for early Bronco, nobody will have them. You can call one of the many Bronco specialty shops, like in Oregon, and may be able to locate these two parts used, that are Bronco only. Your other option is Advance Adapter for new ones. The C4 tranny is very easy to rebuild. Complete kits are about $60. You should be able to locate a non working one for next to nothing. The linkage should be easy to make work out of most anything car or truck in the 70's with a little common sense and some measuring. If you find someone in your area that has an automatic equipped Bronco, try to get pics and measure the linkage pieces that are needed. Might be easier than a blind search. A regular auto steering column assembly from most F series trucks thru `79 can be adapted to fit. Good Luck
