Dodged a Bullet Today....

Well, not literally.

I got pulled over on my way to work this morning. I saw the State Trooper pull up behind me and he followed me (at exactly the speed limit) for about a mile before he put on the wig-wags.

As I was pulling into the emergency cut-out in the road, several potential reasons for him pulling me over go through my head.
1. Truck on a "Passenger Car Only" road. My F-250 is registered as a personal use so I am allowed on this road. Still, they will sometimes pull you over if your truck looks commercial.
2. The 10' 2x8's sticking out of the 8' bed. They were tied securely but I didn't have them flagged. I dropped off a friends tiller on the way to work today otherwise I'd be driving the Escape.
3. The expired inspections sticker. I have a rejection sticker for the failed emissions test. I have had it reinspected several times and the most recent rejection just lapsed.

So, eagle eyes trooper caught the big R in the corner of my windshield and pulled me over. As I was getting my license out of my wallet he saw my concealed carry permit and asked if I had a handgun on me. I did not. He lectured me (briefly) about the inspection sticker and went off to do his business with my license and registration. He came back after what seemed like an hour, gave me another brief talk about the sticker, handed me my warning and off I go.

Had he given me a ticket, I would have deserved it. But, I'll take a break like this any day of the week. Thanks, Mr. Nice Guy State Trooper.

If Montana ever starts a mandatory inspection, I'm leaving...or going to start driving a scooter. So far we don't have enough people to make it a big issue. But..as fast as people are moving here, it probably won't be long.

Well atleast you got a warning. I had an unmarkerd follow me up 495 for about 3 miles on my way to NH today. I was going 70 in a 65. I had no idea what he wanted but I was sweating for those 3 miles. Then he just got off at an exit. I don't know what he was up to.

I wish I could but if I was going to work and if I get caught carrying anywhere on company property I will be terminated. I like my job and the fact that I can retire in 13 years....

I think Texas just eliminated that little problem...or it was just in front of the legislature. Hmmm....I need to confirm that.

That's what I was thinking, but a wuikc check of the license plate would ahve cleared that up. He was right on my a$$ like he was going to pull me over. He has plenty of options to pass me. I was getting my wallet ready and everything. Maybe he just liked his reflection in my chrome bumper?!?!?

If I worked in the private sector I would be all set but I work for a state agency with our own police department. The only folks that can carry on the property are the cops and the money couriers. Probably a good thing some of my coworkers can't be armed....

I've dodged several speed bullets by saying.. well my dad told me the speedo was off a little bit becuz the tires are too big so I thought keeping it at 65 wld be real close to 70... how fast was I going... *acts like I'm thinking* ok so I need to go 62 then to be below 70 right? ... stupid cops believed it everytime.. helps that this truck is what it is. if it was a new one they wldn't buy it but, as it gets older, it looks more like something daddy wld have given to daughter who needed one of daddys cars to help her out for a while... His name's still on the insurance even if mine's on the title and that helps their assumptions go the right directions... Dad told me that it'd be off.. but the speedo hasn't worked for over a year now... ;-)

I guess I dodged a 'bullet' this past Monday also. I took my 9 year old son for a motorcycle ride and I had him strapped to me with a belt, kind of a safety harness, at least in my mind. Anyway, we were on our way back to the house when we went through a roadblock set up by the city police. I am not endorsed for motorcycle by the way. When I got up to the policeman, I told him it would be a minute as I had to dig out my license and that my son was strapped to me.
He smiled and said...."Go ahead."
