I have a 66 F350 it has a booster like thing under the floor board.I was wondering if a new style booster and master cly will work?Like on the 70-79 brakes?I have drums all around. But will it work or not? Thanks Tony
A booster under the floorboard? I'm not exactly sure on this, but I would Imagine that someone added that themselves. I dont think they had any type of power brake boosters on those trucks. I have a 65 F-350 and the brakes are manuel, no booster at all. Someone who is more knowlegeble than me can tell you If you can use a newer style booster and master cylinder, I'm not sure on that one.
Tony,
It's a Stock, OEM style, Vacuum Booster, for 66 & later HD F-350s & larger F Series Trucks with Power brakes. They were not used on Medium Duty or Light Duty vehicles so we don't see them in F-100 or F-250s. FoMoCo didn't offer Power Brakes on F Series Trucks 'til August 65 far as I know/ remember. They usually had an Air Filter near the seat inside the cab on the left above the Booster Chamber. It might have been a Wagner type, not sure about that.
Since the truck is already a Power Brake system an under hood version of Power Brake Booster & Master Cylinder should work fine if for Drum Type Brakes and is rated for the swept area your set up has.
I believe with a Power Disc Brake Master Cylinder you will run into trouble with residual pressure Issues and the difference in PSI Loading for Calipers vs Wheel Cyls in front circuit of your brake system.
