Was wondering how to tell if your new engine is running full power after break in. The most boost I see is about 35psi on the truck gauge on an 450. Is this normal for others out there?
I've hit 40 psi in my 350. Test drove a 450 w/4.88 rear end I couldn't get the boost above 35. Best guess why is because of the way they have the motor governed when you get a 4.88 or manual tranny.
I have F350 with towboss 4.30 gear ratio and I have not seen mine go over 30 psi. Does anyone know when break-in period is achieved? is it by miles or hours?

if you can't get over 30 when you floor it on level ground you have a problem somewhere.
A consideration in this discussion is the accuracy of the guage if you are using a factory guage. I hate to say it but new vehicles do not come with the highest quality guages. That is part of the reason why many new vehicles do not have actual, usable numbers on the guages. It kind of goes allong with the idiot lights replacing guages. They fall under the idea that if it is not pegged in one direction or the other it must be fine.
Sorry, not having real, numbered, accurate guages is a pet peve of mine on new vehicles.
The 450 and 550 only have 300 HP /600 TQ I GUESS cause of the LOW GEARS. If i had to guess thats why the boost is lower.
I have printed documentation from my dealer that states certain configurations of the F450 have 325hp and 650tq, not sure which ones though. I will check it out when I get home and post what I find out.

All F450's with a 6 speed, and only the F450's with 4.88's and auto have reduced HP and TQ.
