Both are good in the right application, one can`t really replace the other.
In a small truck, 1/2 ton or smaller I would go with gas.
As far as a cammed shaker goes a guy I know has a far out cammed 428 in an 39-40 Hudson coupe he drives every day right from the first dry spring day till the first snow fall. It`s a wild ride but ever so neat to listen/feel to it coming up the street! It really rumbles.
The 302 could still pull the occasional trailer also without a problem. I think it would be sweet to put a big engine in the box and take a picture showing everyone it's still Built Mercury Tough! I might even still walk away from a S-10 at a light....
But yeah cant go overboard sherm or you could be so broke yea cant put fuel in the finished project truck or oil or something like that but sounds cool
