MAJOR leak of tranny fluid

Yesterday after I parked in front of the house I was visiting, my buddy said "hey what is THAT?" pointing at a trail of fluid coming all the way down the street to the puddle under my truck. I was thinking "no way"... You know the feeling.

When I changed the oil last week, I had noticed a little more wetness around the front seal than usual, but it was not very much.

My question is... since there was nothing noticeably different with the way my truck was running as I drove down that street, do you think it's likely that my tranny will be okay? I had AAA come pick it up, so it was not driven following the leak discovery.

Is the front pump seal the seal around that big pan just back from the oil pan? If it is, then yeah, that's the one.

The front pump seal is where the T.C goes into. Are you talking about the trans pan gasket?

tomorrow the shop will take a look at my truck when they open. should I have them only replace the seal and see how the transmission runs after that? Or should I go along with their recommendation regarding tranny work?
