Certainly not the "only" way to go. There are plenty of others that are plenty good, including Voyager. I'd suggest finding one that is over $60. You can find new Uhaul controllers and similar brands for cheaper, but they don't work very well. Prodigy is nice, but there are other options. If you are spending the same amount of money, I'd go with the Prodigy.

The best controller would be a BrakeSmart but unless you are towing all the time it would be a little pricey at $450.00. So I would go with a Prodigy thats what I use for a spare.

Car hauler with a single axle? Must be one massive axle!!! If you mean it has tandems with brakes on only one axle you might want to check to see if brakes are required on both, seeing as how Ohio requires 'em over 2000#. Another vote for the Prodigy.

The Prodigy has a $20 rebate until August something. See the Tekonsha site for a form.

The Prodigy is probably the best aftermarket controller out there. The only one I like better is the Ford Tow Command, also made by Tekonsha.

If you ever installed and used a Brakesmart I think you would change your mind on after market controllers.

I have a Prodigy, but based on everything I read, a Brakesmart will be next.

I honestly never heard of Brakesmart. Is it a new product? Who makes it? I will say the Ford Tow Command hands down is AWESOME! I don't see myself without it!

Look here http://www.mrtruck.net/master.htm it's been around for a while but sold by another company at first. You will find that it works off the master cylinder by using a transducer similar to the Ford controller but its been around longer than the Ford unit.
