Hello all...I've got a problem on my 2002 F-250 SD. My parking lights come on for a short period when any door is opened or key is put in ignition or power door lock button is pressed, there are other things that make them come on too. The headlights switch is even in the off position and they still come on, and chime sounds telling me headlights/park lights are on. Chime will quit when headlight switch is moved to autolamp position, but park lights remain on for short period. Checked all fuses under dash and all are OK. Headlights and fog lights work as normal when switched on. Could switch be bad or fuse/relay bad? Where do I need to check fuses in engine compartment? Thanks for any help...
You may check your owners manual that came with the truck. In there, you will find a fuse/relay layout for your power distribution box (fuse box) under the hood. It is mounted just above the LF wheel well. It is about 4 inches wide by 6 inches long. Check in the manual to see if any of the relays control your running lights. If so (which Im sure there are) try switching that relay with another one that does NOT control any other things that you said activate the lights and see if the problem follows the relay. If so, its obviously a bad relay. Id start there. If you have a volt meter, check your grounds. Ive heard of some preaty crazy stuff happening with bad grounds. Also, if you dont have one, go buy a Haynes manual from your local auto supply store. It has wiring schematics in the back. They can be VERY helpful. Good luck!!!
My guess was going to be an aftermarket alarm that has no diode's to prevent backfeed of power, but you state that there is no alarm, so I would have to say you've got a gremlin there somewhere.
