pining 4.6

I have 97 150 4wd with a 4.6 it is pinging under any kind of load.

Could be several things. EGR not flowing properly, dirty MAF, fuel filter partially clogged, vacuum leak? These are the things I would look into first. Have you scanned it for codes yet? I would do that first.

Experience on my end says bad knock sensor.I've seen it alot on the '97-'98's. Check the simple stuff first though like Lxman said.

When have you changed your plugs? Have you ever cleaned you MAF? I would also recommend cleaning out the throttle body elbow [the 2 EGR ports].

It could also be the gas you're running. I had to switch to 89 because it would ping on 87. It still pings on 89 while accellerating uphill with a load...
