I have a small problem with my 91 F-250: I was getting in to start it the other day, and I accidently bumped the ignition lock with out the key in it, and it flipped forwards into the 'ON' postion.
Now I can't put the key in it, nor can I flip it back to the 'LOCK' postion. Anyone ever have this problem?
And also, how hard is it to pull the steering wheel and replace the lock myself? Anybody?
I have done this before and just played with the ignition cylinder until it lined back up. Try that. Is it actually LOCKED into the position that its in? Or does it rotate still? If it is locked then try moving the steering wheel back and forth while turning on the ign. cylinder, it should budge.

Well, I can still turn it forwards so where it'll turn the engine over, if the battery wasn't dead. I'll try what you suggested though, see if it works.
It's all the way forwards, as in the cylinder is out of the LOCK position and in the ON position, like you had the engine running. So basically, there's power going to everything.
As for why it was able to do that, with no key in it, I have no idea. I'm thinking the lock cylinder needs replacing.
Mine is pretty worn out too. I can take the keys out while driving. Sometimes if mine locks up I will wiggle the steering wheel from side to side and try to turn it back to the unlocked position. That has always worked for me.
only advice i can give is if you are goin to relace the ignition cylinder buy one of those steering wheel remover kits they are pretty cheap and it will save you a nasty bump on the nose trying to pull it off by hand i speak from experience first hand
to replace the ignition cylinder you just stick a drill bit iin the hole on the bottom of the column under it while its in the on position (as it already is) depress the pin thats in there and pull the cylinder out.

not on a 87 - 91, it's not there on my column, you have to pull the wheel.
