351 roller lifter vs. non roller

my motor blew up in my 96 f-250 and i have another motor out of a 92 bronco that is fully rebuilt with roller rockers and, ported stock heads. the only thing it needs is a cam. i was going to either get a comp, or a custom grind. my question is how much more power will i get from the non roller lifter motor with these mods compaired to the roller lifter stock motor?

all depends on the rpm range.....but the cam profiles on a roller cam are way better...just need some good springs to keep the lifters on the cam.

its a 4x4 lifted with 33in tires and 410 gears and i do a fair amount of towing so it dosent see high rpms. i just need to know if its worth it to use or not. i need to get the truck running soon so swaping out the components of the 92 into the 96 motor is not somthing i want to do unless it will have much more noticeable power.

Pretty much all the aftermarket cams are bigger than stock, and even the stock heads can take advantage of additional lift up to about 0.500" total. So depending upon the cam, you will get anywhere from a little bit more to lots more torque. My combo easily out muscles my father's '96 E250....

i decided to use the non roller lifter motor in my truck.

but i need to get a cam for it. does anyone have any suggestions on which one to get?? i was either thinking of calling comp cams and asking them what they would prefer or getting a custome ground one from a company that many use on fte (i forget their name but i have their phone #).

whatever route i go i will get a kit with matching lifters, pushrods, and springs.
OH, and i forgot to tell you guys that the ported heads are gt-40's, so i dont know if that makes a difference in pushrod lenght or cam choice.

Thanks, FTE RULES

The one in my sig or the Comp Cam 35-255-5, both will work with the stock EFI system.

Did any of thoes cams make a difference over stock, and what were the losses, if any?? My truck is mass air so i know that i have more choices than a speed density EFI.

HemiEater:
im going to put pics of my truck up tomorow or thursday, but the motor will have to wait. it isnt painted and still needs to be finished but i will post pics of it when its done, which will be soon.

Ahh... yeah!! No comparison. The cam in the pre '94 5.8 is really bad, the motor makes no more HP than the 5.0, just a little more low rpm TQ. My cam produces great low rpm power and surprising midrange. Everybody that gets in the truck comments on how peppy it is, even from the passenger seat it's obvious the truck has more than usual getup and go off stoplights and highway on-ramps... even compared to current trucks!! A good friend has a 2000 with a 5.4.... sorry, no contest. I can get 17+ mpg on the hwy, and it easily passes Ontario sniffer tests. There is no downside, unless you're concerned about accelerated rear tire wear.
Mass air does give you more selection on cams, but the RV grind cams with wider LSA will produce more pulling power.. which is what a truck needs.
