Most of us will agree that a stabilizer is a band-aid for a poorly operating steering system. If you are trying to cover up a problem in a weak, or poorly designed system, then a stabilizer will help, and if one is helpfull, two will cover up twice as good. The best thing to do, is figure out what is wrong with the steering, and fix whatever is causing the problem that makes you feel that you even need one in the first place.
A steering system that is working properly and designed correctly will not require a damper. Even with big old tires.
If you have play in the steering, then that is a problem, and it is a poorly adjusted box, worn out box, or loose steering component. The stabilizer will "cover up" or help limit the ill effects of a worn component but does not fix it.
Better to find out why the steering has 'play' and fix it, rather than just trying to cover it up.
Now if the syatem is working properly, and you are considering the installation of the damper to try to help the components last longer, it probably will not help the life too much. Added resistance makes the box work harder to turn the tires, and maay actually limit the life of the box and pump, but these would be minimal. Drag links and tie rod ends still recieve the brunt of all wheel impacts, so these components will still probably wear the same..
The only reason for getting it is to reduce vibrations and hand fatigue. Though if you are running soft enough and wide enough tires, it shouldn't be much of a problem.
A steering stabilizer can help to reduce bump steer on TTB. Bump steer is pretty much inherent to Ford's implementation of TTB, and that"s is one way to reduce it. Using Superruner's replacement steering components ('80 - '96) is the other one, and that is supposed to eliminate bump steer completely. (I don't have it).
I need pics or instuctions. I bought a tuff country dual steering stabilizer kit for a 1996 f250 HD excab. 7.3l powerstroke. I lost the one page instructions they give you in the kit. Does anyone have this on there vehicle or a copy of the instructions etc. Help please.
