I had a remote started installed in my truck. This is my first diesel, and I want to make sure that the truck isnt starting too soon after the remote started button is pressed. It looks like the remote is tied into the glow-plug indicator light, and as soon as that shuts off the engine starts. Should it wait longer?Like until the rest of the indicator lights turn off? When I start it manually, I hear a buzzing (sounds like a fuel pump) that doesnt always stop at the same time the glow plug light goes off.....should I be waiting for that to stop or only pay attention to the glow plug light?
Those remote starters are normally programmed either for gas or diesel. They take into account the "wait" period needed for a diesel. If the installer did it correctly, it is fine.
On the 2007s the glow plug light is run off the PCM so the remote start can't be hooked up to it. It is just set on a timer to wait so long before starting. If it is not waiting long enough you should be able to take it back to whomever you bought it from and have them change the length of time before start.
I got a CodeAlarm. I am very pleased with it. Mine is the 5.4L not the diesel, but it can be programmed for the diesel as well. The only thing I don't care for is all the horn honking. Every time you touch any button, it's gonna honk the horn. And because of the delayed lights out feature of the F-250 (and others I suppose), about 30 seconds or so after you lock the doors, you get another honk when the lights go out! I suppose this can all probably be changed (programmed) too, I just haven't gotten around to messing with it.
I have an AutoPage system that is excellent. No horn honking. It has a few nice features, adjustable vibration sensor for the alarm (if equipped), turbo-timer for cool down. (lets you leave the truck running, take keys with you and lock doors, will run truck for 3 min cool down) and the system has an excellent range. Highly recommend. The only negative is the buttons on the remote are very sesative; so metimes i push the button mistakenly or it gets pushed in my pocket etc.
