I'm looking to purchase a 78'-85' Bronco to use mostly off-road. I was wondering what year is a good base to begin with? What year has the most bullet-proof drivetrain.
I want to use Autofabs suspension front and rear.
Any opinions on this setup?
Thanks in advance.
if you are going mostly off-road i would highly recommand with the 78 or 79 broncos there is a lot of reason i choose these years. here is just a few reasons: have soild front and rear axles, easy to modafi for your usages and you can't hardly beat the dana 44 front ford 9 rear and the np 205 combo. but also can be easly upgraded to 3\4 ton axles also.
hope this makes your life easier!

I agree. The 78-79 broncos were big and still held a solid fron axle. The early bronco's are nice for offroading too becuase of the size. They can get into a lot of tight places plus there are so many available parts for them now its unbeleivable.
I missed that you were interested in 78-85 Bronco's. The old lady's got an 83 with a straight six. It's fun to beat on and takes some abuse but lifts for them are more complex and expensive due to the IFS. But 78 to the last bronco's (so sad) were all available with quad shocks.
