I know my tank has about 1/4 tank or more in it . My fuel gauge just moved and now says I have a full tank of gas, but way past full. Now my truck will not start. The truck will turn over , just does not start
This has been happening to me since I bought the truck. Sometimes it will start in five minutes , sometimes not until the next day. When it does start I will watch the fuel gauge go back to what it is supposed to read, in this case a quarter tank.
why does this happen?? somesort of vaccumm, I brought it to the shop numerous times only to have it start at the mechanics EVERY time..
please help!
1996 f-150 straight 6 4x4 150,000kms
i had the same porblem after i took the dash apart on my 92 straight 6. i have only one gas tank. where the fuel tank switch would have been was not conected. u may have a bad ground or bad connetion.
when i took my dash apart i didnt hook the plug back up to the back where the switch would have been, the gas gauge did the same thing u are saying. simple fix if thats what it is.
yes I hear the pump run ....I only have one tank. I will watch the gauge come back to correct reading then the truck will start, every time, it's been doing this for 1 year or so ....soooo frustrated
Sounds like you have a bad ground at LH front of engine compartment, top of upper radiator support (G100). The is right in front of the Windshield Washer/Coolant Recovery reservoir.
The all Black wire there is the ground for your fuel gauge and fuel pump.
If you lose ground on this wire your fuel gauge will peg past full.
I would say you are loosing ground from the tank to G100 over the black wire or you are losing connection at the dash jumper.
Anyway you have a wiring problem somewhere long the line from the dash switch, fuel tank and back to G100.
