Well I got my 390 all rebuilt and fired up last night, she runs awesome. Thanks Guys for all your help through the build. Some specs are 390 bored .30 over L2291 pistons, D2 heads with CJ valves, 941 cam and I am waiting on getting a bigger carb because my little one just doesnt cut it anymore. Got me all fired up! I have mine torn apart waiting to take to the machine shop. Been spending all of my spare time working on my son's "returned" 302. As soon as I quit spending time and $$ fixing his careless treatment of the motor I'm back on my 390 project.
So i took it around the block for a quick ride and when i got back i heard a tap tap tap noise, so i shut it down, i took the valve cover off on the passenger side and i found a bent pushrod on the #4 cylinder, what would cause this, i am using the factory non-adjustable rockers yet, I would like osme help ASAP, Thanks guys
I just took the rocker shaft off and reinstalled a new pushrod and had my dad turn the motor over by hand so i could watch everything move, well on the #4 cylinder the very back rocker arm i can move it up and down and when i push on the pushrod i can pump the lifter up by hand is that supposed to do that, there is a 1/4 inch gap between the rocker and valve spring except when it comes up and it seems like the valve isnt opening enough, i can take some pictures of it if you don understand what i am saying.
Are you sure about what he's saying ? Seems to me he's decsribing a stuck valve... way before it would seat in the harended ring... like a guide issue maybe ? .25" is a S&%%^load of space. If you tap on the rocker over the valve will it pop all the way out ? Putting normal load on the rocker.. Watch this be one of those times I simply cant read,,
