I test drove an 02 f250 w/ 108k miles yesterday at take off there was a bad vibration when giving it gas from a stop. but after 30-40 mph it would go away. ive test drove 5-6 trucks in the last week this one feels like its down power too on the lowend takeoff almost like a miss but its not missing.. tranny slipping? TQ converter not locking up? after 40-50mph it pulls hard..
if you check in the 99-03 powerstroke or the heavy/super duty forum they would be able to help you better on this one. double check the name of this forum. if there is no vibration during idle i would get the whole drive line checked out. get under it and start shaking stuff around and see what ya find.
May be a U joint but I doubt it since it doesn't vibrate while driving but worth checking. May also be trans problems. Other than that chec with the other forum they may know something I don't.
Is the truck lifted? If it is, then I would definately look into shimming the carrier bearing. Rule of thumb is 1/4 inch shim for every 1" of lift. It doesn't have to be a full blown suspension lift either. I did an add a leaf helper spring for a guy one time that lifted his rear end almost 4 inches empty. Any more than 2 inches above stock is enough to throw the rear end out of whack.
If the truck is not lifted, I would check the u-joints, then the carrier, and if that doesn't reveal anything, look closely for abnormal tire wear. If a tire is off balance, it can cause wierd vibrations, check for missing wheel weights and what not.
