hey everyone, just rebuilt the carb, all the ignition stuff looks good, just want to adjust the timing to make sure its on.
what should i set the timing to seeing as how my hayes manual only says consult my emissions sticker, that is gone? i read another post that said i should retard the timing more, it will give it better performance considering that the cam timing is already retarded more than it should.
Why did you reatard the cam more then it should be? Stock cams are already 4 degrees retarded so why hinder the performance? Your best bet is a cam with straight up timing. Your base distributer timing should be 6-12 BTDC with the vaccum advance plugged.
He said he was missing his sticker. I, like him has a 76 w/360. My sticker is still present and says 10 degrees. Why the debate? Mis-information is worse than none at all. That I have learned here!
You have to understand that there was a few diffferent calibration numbers on these engines and they all used a different base timing number. The range was from 6 BTDC -12 BTDC.
