I am just thinking about purchasing new front shocks for my 2002 F-250 5.4L 4x4. It is still the stock height but I do the occasional offroading. I am just wondering what you guys would recommend for a shock? Something lower in the price ranges as I am limited to money...
I'm not quite sure about the 5.4L.....but for the diesel, the Bilstein 5100 series are valved perfectly for the superduties. Don't go with a dual shock setup in the front since you only occasionally go offroad, it will only stiffen the ride. I had Rancho rs5000 shocks before, and they are JUNK.
i have the kyb monomax shocks on my truck. i am very impressed with them. i have duals up front. i do not recomend dual shocks on a 5.4L truck. i dont think there is enough weight up front. the truck will ride real stiff.
ditto on the Bilsteins. installed them on my '05 a couple of weeks ago. the ride is far improved over the stock "Rancho" shocks. i i too used the 5100 series. just a note, but i also replaced my steering stabilizer with a rough country, and that made the biggest difference of all. goodbye to bump-steer.
Okay, sorta related question. I finally received 2 of my 4 Bilstien HD's yesterday (3 weeks after ordering), I had read a thread a few weeks back where someone said that you install these shocks with the blue boot on top or bottom depending on if you have a 4X4 or 2X4. I have a 2X4 and would appreciate knowing if this is true and if so which way do I install them blue boot up or down?
I have a 4.5" lift and they put on the Donahoe shocks. The ride is a little stiff & a friend suggested rancho 9000's. I bought some for the rear (since thats where the bounce is) and dialed it down to the softest setting. It did help and if I ever decide to off-road I can reach under and dial it up to a stiffer setting.
