Hi All, im a newbie on here and have a question regarding the possible purchase of the above.
Its a 1979 model and has a 7.5 litre V8 ford engine. I live in the UK, gas prices and 7.5 litres of motor are not a good combination.
I was wondering if their is the possibility of chnaging the motor on this for a diesel motor? Has anyone seen or done this type of conversion before? and also know if its possible to source these parts in the UK.
I have seen a couple of perkins swaps over the years & I would think you could get a good supply of those units on youre side of the pond & I believe the 6.9 & early 7.3 may fit that generation of van, have you considered a 5.0 petrol motor as they are very efficent & plentiful as well as aftermarket fuel injection is redily available & it was a standard engine in those vans. kindest reguards, Jim.
that's too tall & too long for that engine compartment the 4 cyl Perk. barely fits length & height wise & the ISB is longer by 21" & 7" taller! them vans suck for swaps.
Hi there I have a 1990 E-350 cube van that has a prepowerstoke 7.3L IDI diesel in her. It is a fantastic engine currently have 320 000 on it and is still strong. I would highly recommend that you put one of the 6.9 or 7.3 prepowerstroke in your van. I get over 20mpg with a stock engine. There are some problems, the engine is in a strange place (kinda 1/2 under the hood, and juts into the cab a little) this makes it rather hard to work on. The engine is also vary heavy 1000lbs+ but other than that its great. It is made by international and the block often doesn't need an overhaul till well over 500 000km if taken care of.
i would say its possible, the 7.3 came in the E-platform only in the 1 ton version. probably easiest to swap in an idi 7.3 allot less wirering to f'with, your best bet is to find an complete e350 diesel van as your donor for the swap
