I thought they all had to have some kind of dvd something like that to store the maps. Not sure about what "real time" gps is. Even the portable units need to be updated.. I am suprised the factory nav wouldnt work. I would think it would you would just need to get a nav box or seperate brain for it too thru the dealer.

Some Have A Hard Drive That Stores The Info. One Of My Co-workers Installed A Unit For Around 1200 And Hates It. You Need One Around 2100. To 2500. It Will Have A Hard Drive.

What unit does he have and why does he hate it? I personally love mine and it works very well. They should all need some type of media to get the map from. From what I have heard the dvd discs are a year or 2 behind because there are only a couple companies that actually gather the data for all the roads. And i think the harddrive is preloaded with the information for the navi. I would think it would still have to be updated at some point with new roads, etc.

The dealer pretty much BS'ed you. All they have to do is plug in the truck and they can change the settings on the radio.

When You Want To Play A Cd You Have To Take The Disc Out. When You Do That You Lose Some Of The Features. If You Buy One With A Hard Drive, The Info Is Stored On The Hard Drive And You Can Play A Cd And Use The Navigation At The Same Time.

My Only Point Is That Some Of The Cheaper Ones Don't Have The Same Features As Others. Thats Why They Are Cheaper. My Opinion Is That The Pioneer Avic-z2 Is A Very Nice Unit.it Has A 30 Gb Hard Drive To Store Music And Dvd's. It's Only My Opinion.

Get the z1 rather than the z2 if you can. They are the same unit with all the same features but the z1 can be bypassed and there is no bypass for the z2...regardless of what's on ebay.
