Need your input, Please

Hi All.
I just bought a new travel trailer (New Horizons, a custom made trailer) and it is significantly heavier (Dry weight 11500) then my previous one (SunnyBrook, dry- 7000).
I have the Ride-Rite airbags and I tow with the Hensley hitch.
Input I need; What do you think regarding GCWR ? Anything I should/can do ?
Will the class IV receiver that came with the truck be enough ?
I know that it is a post factum question - but better later than never !
TIA, Isaac

a class IV hitch is rated at 7,500 lbs (wc) and tongue weight of 1000 lbs. now you might raise those by getting a weight distribution attachment for your camper! it sould say on your hitch what you get with a (wd) i think?

I do have a Weight Distribution System <WEIGHT attachment distribution>- the Hensley Arrow system and it is considered the best one there is.
Again, the question is - will the Hensley hitch system be enough or it is better (for better safety) to change my receiver to a
class V one ???
Thanx again
Isaac

Why not remove all doubt and go get a Class V?
I thought a Class IV was rated heavier than 7500lb, but if not then you are two tons over the limit. I bought a Class V reciever installed on my truck last year for around $480.00 and the thing is BEEFY.
I could have put it in myself, but I decided that I wanted an expert in this area who knew the standards and had experience with installs, so I had it done for me.

According the info I have - I will have to change the hitch to a class V one, I just hope that the track will not be overloaded with 1400 tongue weight, and I will also have to think about adding some power (I still don't know what and how)
Thanx guys,
Any other ideas ?
Isaac

u sould be safe my ford owners manual says my truck can tow a combined weight of 20,000 lbs that truck and tow vehicle. my truck weighs 7620 that leaves me12,380 lbs but most ppl go over that so just get the right hitch and you will be fine! jmo!

You are right medhvac, however - the 7620 is probably the dry weight of your truck.
Add 2 people, shell and some equipment, fuel , etc and you are around 8300 to 8500 !
Add the dry weight of the trailer (11500) plus what ever food, water and other regular things (I do not want to say junk, if you know what I mean...) that the wife usually puts there - lets say around 13000 lbs. Combined weight now comes to around 21500, and that is overloaded.
Hopefully the air spring (Ride-Rite by Firestone) and my good weight distribution hitch (Hensley Arrow) will help, and opefully I will have enough power in my 7.3 baby.
What do you guys think ??
Thanx,
Isaac
