When I first start my truck my air bag light comes on like normal. After the truck is running it is suppose to fade off. Mine goes out, but then it starts flashing, and then it just stays on...
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening???
It is a 1997 f150 standard Lariot. 97000mi.
I have tried resetting my computer but to no avail..
Sounds like you have some sort of actual problem in your airbag. I think I read something in my owners manual or service manual or something about that.
mine as well is having problems, seems to be flashing a code, five flashes, a pause, then two, as well as beeping under the dash. I have been told it may be a problem with the relays...will get it checked out and let you know, or if anybody has an Idea what the problem may be...Id love to know.
I know exactly what this is,..my '97 F150, had the same problem. I'm telling you the information as it was described to me, by the dealership. Somewhere within the Steering wheel behind the airbag- there is a spring that wears out as the wheel is turned. As this wears out it causes a temp loss of electrical continuity to the air bag, thus causing the light to come on at times.
There was another side effect to this problem,...when I would press the cruise control ON button, it would actually HONK the horn! Evidently, can also effect this.
I will pull up my service record when i get home tonight, and respond tomorrow with the actual part number that failed.
As promised, here is the actual write up by the Dealership.

if you plan on bringing this in for the dealer to fix, (which i recommend), and you use Warranty Direct extended warranty- I recommend that you first complain of your HORN blowing sometimes when you press the Cruise Control ON button on your steering wheel. Now it becomes a Cruise Control issue, and will be covered,..otherwise,..break out your checkbook.
Clockspring replacement. The Clockspring normally effects the air-bag, horn, and cruise control buttons. First sign normally is the air bag light w/codes.
